The residents of New York City have been found to be the most fatigued in America, with Denver following up, perhaps surprisingly, in second place.
One-third of adult Americans do not get enough sleep and CPAP.com has new data on U.S. fatigue levels.
"Though it might not come as a shock that the city that never sleeps lives up to its nickname, ranking as the most fatigued city in America, it can't be denied that the amount of 100 plus hours commuters spend in traffic is absurd," Bella Valentini, a spokesperson for CPAP.com said in a statement.
"Denver ranks as the second most fatigued city and even ranks as the worst city for work-related stress, causing fatigue among its residents. The Windy City of Chicago rounds out the top 3 most fatigued U.S. cities, ranking in the top 10 for work stress.
"In a country that glamorizes hustle culture, it's important to ensure everyone takes steps to prioritize sleep to prevent burnout and fatigue."
What The Researchers Found?
Researchers looked at the 100 most populous U.S. cities and analyzed factors such as noise pollution, light pollution, air quality, and work-life balance. For work-life balance, they looked at how much time people spent commuting in traffic, the percentage of remote workers in each city, and the work stress level of each city.
They also analyzed search terms about fatigue and sleep from January to December 2024.
New Yorkers were living with the second worst noise and light pollution, had among the lowest percentage of remote workers, spent the most hours in traffic and did the most searching online for sleep-related issues.

Of the top twenty cities, the best air quality was in Boston, the least noise and light pollution was Pittsburgh, the lowest work-related stress was Miami, while the city with the highest percentage of remote workers, at 32 percent, was San Francisco. The city residents who spent the least number of hours in traffic, at 33 hours, was San Diego.
Seattle, which had a relatively high percentage of remote working (36 percent), also had a high number of hours spent in traffic (58 percent).
