A new Chinese urban renewal plan for 2026–2030 sets priorities for improving existing neighbourhoods, infrastructure and the use of urban land.
The programme connects renewal with economic development, living conditions, environmental performance, resilience, cultural preservation and city governance. It includes better use of underutilized land and measures to strengthen safety throughout the life cycle of housing.
Infrastructure upgrades are another focus. By linking these tasks, the plan frames urban renewal as an ongoing effort to improve how established cities function. The targets and measures set out a policy programme for the coming years, rather than a report of completed projects.
